Mould remediation closes entire floors at South Campus during the summer holidays
During the summer holidays, mould remediation will be carried out on the ground and 1st floors on South Campus.
While most staff and students are taking a well-deserved summer break from campus, workmen will start work in buildings 21, 22 and 27. To provide peace of mind, it has been decided to close off the entire ground and first floors of the three buildings over the summer. This means that student cafés and other rooms that have been in use so far will be unavailable in July and August.
Special focus on selected areas
It is an extensive project, and UCPH BYG does not expect everything to be ready for the start of term in September. Therefore, there is a strong focus on getting priorities right:
- We have chosen to focus on rooms that are difficult to replace elsewhere on campus. For example, an auditorium and the study cafés. They cannot be easily moved to other locations. That's why we're doing them first," says Karen Dilling, Deputy Director of UCPH BYG.
Study-start and teaching in September
UCPH BYG cannot guarantee that all classrooms will be ready for the start of studies – therefore, the administration has worked to find alternative solutions on campus.
- We have tried to maintain teaching at the already announced times, as far as possible, so that both teachers and students can count on the plans that have been made for the coming semester, says Head of Section Kåre Nielsen Wangen, and continues:
- This means that some teaching will take place in completely different areas of campus, but we have managed to keep teaching on South Campus.
Kåre Nielsen Wangen recommends all teachers and students to check their timetable for changes continuously, as room numbers can change during the semester.
Tutors who will welcome the new students in September will be informed about cordoned off areas today, and posters will be put up in the affected buildings. As mentioned, the focus is on the study cafés during the summer holidays, so that they will hopefully be ready when the new students start their studies, but it is probably inevitable that more study-start activities will have to be held elsewhere than on campus.
Online meeting and status after the holidays
UCPH BYG expects to provide information on the status of the mould/remediation at the end of August or the beginning of September.
